Presentation of the 3B Cart System at Copenhagen Airport

Today the 3B cart and the larger concept of which it is a part, including the already famous RampSnake, will be presented to airport and ground handler managers from all over Europe at Copenhagen Airport. The presentation begins at the Hilton Hotel near the airport and is hosted by FKI Logistex.

The event marks the end of several years of development and tests conducted by CPH Design in cooperation with a large group of people from Copenhagen Airport, SAS Ground Services and SAS. The process began in 1997 and has resulted in the first airport in the world that has a fully automatic luggage handling system from check-in to the cargo room of the aircraft for non containerised baggage. The 3B cart, formerly known as BBB or RampMate, is a central element in this system.

The integral system which is now in full production includes several advantages: it provides benefits to the working environment because it eliminates heavy lifting. Security is improved because the last match between passenger and luggage at the aircraft secures that only luggage owned by the passenger is let through. Moreover, the system is profitable for airports because of a more effective sorting system and is beneficial for airline companies thanks to a shorter turn-around-time and less damage to passengers’ luggage.
