Frej trained as an Industrial Designer at The Royal Academy of Fine Arts, school of architecture in Copenhagen. In addition, he studied design at the California College of the Arts in San Francisco, product development at Engineering College of Copenhagen, and building construction at Technical College of Construction Copenhagen.

Before Frej joined CPH Design, he worked at CBD A/S as an industrial designer. Here he participated in the development of several products for use in the pharmaceutical industry, a  sustainable energy project, and several designs for consumer electronics. Frej has worked as a model builder for KHR Architects and has on several occasions worked as a craftsman, participating for example in the restoration of several old ships. Frej has worked independently as an architect and designer, was co-founder of design group HALLO!design.
